Should I be worried about this animal?

I live in Narkata India, I am staying in a town. The town is pretty poor, but is quite rural. The town it's self is full of people and has quite a large population. I left the town late one night after I could not sleep. I left my room and went out for a walk, nobody was about. I walked out the town and followed up the main road which is the main access to the town. I was walking, I looked out to a near by paddy field and saw somthing rustling about. Then suddenly, a figure leaped out of the paddy, jumping atleast two and a half meters into the air, it then ran across the road. I am pretty sure it was a Tiger, I spoke to a person in the town and he told me if it was infact a Tiger I saw, I wouldn't be telling him about it. Maybe a leopard? A few nights after the incident, two fishermen were killed whilst fishing. One of them was said to of been completley decapitated.
